Repentance is the sorrowfulness of our sins against God, the knowledge that we have acted against God's word and have offended God, in that we deserve the judgment of God. However, we ask God forgiveness for breaking his laws and ask for his mercy instead of his justice. According to Acts 3:19, we are to repent therefore and turn back so that your sins may be blotted out.
Real repentance demonstrates a change of life, a new beginning. Simply repenting and not living right is non-repentance because the fruit of repentance is a change of direction from sin to righteousness. It is vital that we do not just say sorry to God for our sins but also obey his command. According to Matthew 4:17, from that time on, Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand, and also 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should reach repentance.

God can forgive you for all your sins, and he is able to give you a new belief in righteousness. However, asking God for forgiveness means making a commitment to living holy by obeying his commandment and not going back to sin. Since God can forgive, true repentance is our ticket to freedom, but merely the use of the act of repentance for our own self-gain will not work and will not be accepted by God. Repentance is a grace for all men and must not be abused for our own gain. To say I will sin purposefully and then ask for forgiveness demonstrates the lack of fear we have toward God, and God will not honor our repentance. But if you live in sin and do not repent, the Bible tells us that if you die, you will go to hell and spend eternity in torment. However, if you are sincere, God can forgive all of our sins. According to Acts 2:38, Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. And in 2 Chronicles 7:14, it says, If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. In Matthew 3:8, we are instructed to bear fruit in keeping with repentance.
1 John 1:9 says,If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This promise is to all who repent, and God honors His Word and fulfills his promises. God has forgiven you and does not condamn you; rest in this peace that God promised.
